Death
Ernest William Carter, 80, 1156 Ohio St., city, died at 3:25 p.m. Friday at the Waynesboro Community Hospital where he was a patient for two weeks. Mr. Carter was a member of the Sherando Methodist Church and had lived in Sherando for 14 years before moving to Waynesboro. He was the last member of his immediate family. Born June 5, 1878, in Nelson County, Mr. Carter was a son of the late William J. and Frances Henderson Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Fox Carter; one son, Fulton W. Carter, and one daughter, Mrs. Lucy C. Yancey. Survivors include one son, E. O. Carter, Waynesboro; three daughters, Mrs. Austin (Lula Belle) Dedrick, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Percy (Nettie) Kennedy and Mrs. Wilmer (Ethel) Pannell, all of Waynesboro; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of the Etter Funeral Home by the Rev. Ralph W. Hines. Interment will be in the Sherando Methodist Church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Harold Carter, Kenneth Carter,. Preston Yancey, Lewis Yancey, Thurston Yancey, Howard Yancey, Thomas Yancey and Richard Dedrick. Flowerbearers will be Mr. Carter's granddaughters.Endnotes
