Death
John Cyrus Fitzgerald, 76, died suddenly at his home, Route 4, Staunton, about 8:30 a.m. yesterday (Monday). He is survived by his wife, who was prior to her marriage, Miss Dell Dodd, and five sons and three daughters: H. O. Fitzgerald, Waynesboro; J. R. Fitzgerald, Clifton Forge; Marion and Leslie Fitzgerald at home; H. N. Fitzgerald, Culpeper; Mrs. J. A. Surface of Staunton; Mrs. Andrew Thomas, Lincoln; and Mrs. Clarence Cooper, Lincoln. There are also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren Wednesday at eleven a. m. Funeral services for John Cyrus Fitzgerald, 76, who died suddenly at his home on Route 4, Staunton, Monday, June 12, at 8:45 a.m. were held today (Wednesday) at 11:00 a.m. at Barren Ridge. He was born Feb. 4, 1868, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Attison J. Fitzgerald of Nelson County, where he spent his childhood. At the age of twenty-one he married his first wife who was Miss Martha E. Fitzgerald of Nelson County. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls. The youngest died as an infant. Surviving of this marriage are: H. O., Staunton, J. R., Clifton Forge, H. N., Culpeper, Mrs. J. A. Surface, Staunton, Mrs. Andrew Thomas and Mrs. Clarence Cooper of Lincoln. His second wife was Miss Della Dodd of Nelson County and to this union were born two sons. His wife and both sons, Marion Elliot and Leslie Attison Fitzgerald survive him. Other survivors are two brothers, Raleigh W., Waynesboro, and E. A. Lynchburg. There are also twenty-nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were: Elmer Hall, Marsh Landrum, Tom Painter, Justice Allen, Wm. E. Fitzgerald and Mack Meeks. Flower girls were Katherine Fitzgerald, Martha Surface, Edith Fitzgerald, Gloria Fitzgerald, Bertha Gibson, Hallie Fitzgerald, Lillie Surface, Ruth Coffman, May Gilbert and Shirley Fitzgerald.
