March 16, 1862 - New Madrid County, Missouri, USA - He, along with many other comrades, had to push a heavy cannon through the Mississippi River/Swamp and contacted Malaria, which left him sick for the rest of his life.
October 31, 1864 - He was appointed Corporal in the 43rd Indiana Infantry, Company K.
