Notes
Death
Lydia J. Madden, daughter of George and Sarah Lindley, was born Sept. 10th, 1865. Died March 9, 1899. Age 33 years, 5 months and 29 days. She was married to A.G. Madden Sept. 6, 1885, and to them have been born three sons. She was converted at Rush Creek in a Friends meeting when about 12 years old. She remained a member of the Friends church until eight years ago when she and her husband united with the Methodist church. She was a member of said church at the time of her death, faithful in the church and Sabbath school work, always lending a helping hand in pointing erring ones to the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world. She was a charter member of Sylvania Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, an order which she dearly loved, and one that was better by her having belonged to it. As the Star guided the wise men to the place of our Saviour's birth, may the remembrance of her life guide us to where she now is for she has gone to live with Jesus.
She was also a member of Erwin Relief Corps, at Tangier, being one of its brightest and best workers. She served one year as chaplain and was a past president of the Corps. Sister Madden has been in ill health for about two years. Two years ago, when very near death's door; she promised God if he would spare her, she would live for him. This she has done. In her last sickness, she seemed to be very conscious of the promises she had made to God and lived even more close to Him than ever, having her husband read God's word to her, and then praying together every day. When told that her condition was critical, and that she might not get well, she said: "It is alright. If I don't die now I will sometime and it's alright."
