Thomas Eugene Wilt, I, 81, of Charles Town passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on Wednesday, August 2 in Berkeley Medical Center. Born October 7, 1941, he was the son of the Everett Eugene and Myrtle Eliza Ott Wilt. He grew up on "the mountain" with many Ott and Wilt cousins. He graduated from Charles Town High School class of 1959. He worked for Valley Hardware before joining the Navy in 1961. After four years in the Navy stationed in Portsmouth, Virginia, he came back to Charles Town and worked for Wagner Chevrolet, Merchant-Noland Chevrolet, Supertane Gas Corporation, and ABC Group. Tom has been a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town since he was a teenager. He was a member of several committees, Choir, and Young Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class since 1978. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Faylee Kisner Wilt, whom he married December 20, 1975; daughter, Karen Beth Furr (Todd), sons, Thomas E. Wilt, II (Kristi Hartlove), and Jeremy D. Wilt (Emily Nibert). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Dylan Coffman (Emily), Jade Wilt (Brian Carter), Brody Furr, and August D. Wilt. Six great-grandchildren also called him Papaw: Maverick, Palmer, and Navey Coffman, Jackson, Conner, and June Carter. He is survived by a brother, Dave Wilt, sister-in-law, Bobbie Wilt, brother-in-law, Bob Nicewarner and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Margaret Doris Nicewarner, three brothers: Everett Ronald Wilt, Larry Daniel Wilt, and Sterling Glenn Wilt. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2023 at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town with the Rev. Duane Jensen officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 6 at the church and one hour prior to service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association-WV, P.O.
