Death
Harry A. Shimpfky, of Wheat Ridge, a mail carrier for the Boulder Post Office for 25 years, died Thursday in St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver following a long illness. He was with the Boulder Post Office from 1927 until 1949 when he retired after 40 years of service that began in Denver in 1909. Born in Denver June 22, 1899, he attended the Denver public schools. He was married in Denver in 1913 to Gertrude E. Myers. He was a life member of Boulder's Columbia Lodge No 14 AF&AM, a member of Boulder Chapter No 7 RAM, Boulder Council No 17,R&SM Highlands Commandery No 30, Knights Templar, and Edgewater chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He also was a memeber of the Wheat Ridge Methodist Church. In addition to his widow, he is survived by a son H. Lester Shimpfky of Broomfield, three daughters, Mrs. Florence Furr of Tracy, CA, Mrs Dorothy Bybee of Las Vegas, Nev, and Mrs Blanche Shepheard of Salinas, CA, nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral services will be Monday at 3 pm in the Moore Mortuary in Denver, Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.Harry Shimpfky was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. The year he was born Mary Elitch opened her soon to be famous gardens and theater. Elitch Gardens or Elitches to the younger generations was a delight to the City of Denver. At the age of 18 he became a postman in Denver. He married Gertrude Myers and they had four chiildren. In 1925 he moved his family to Boulder, Colorado. Now during the depression years he had a good paying government job! He loved being involved with the Masonic Lodge, and the Knights Temple for many years. Harry loved to fish most of all. It was on one of these fatefull t rips when he fell ill and had a massive stroke. The stroke left him helpless and weak. He lived several years in this condition until he finally gave up the fight and went to heaven and our Lord.
