Death
Frances Dull Burns, 94, widow of Samuel Newton Burns, Sr., of Swoope passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Living in Staunton. Mrs. Burns was born in Augusta County, Virginia on January 6, 1929. In addition to her mother, Pauline Bertha (Furr) Dull and her husband, whom she married on August 14, 1948, she was preceded in death by her son, Samuel Newton Burns, Jr. and her brother, Wallace Raymond Dull. She was a member of the Buffalo Gap Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Burns enjoyed spending time with her family and shopping. She and Sam Sr. were active with the Ever Young Singers for many years. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter-in-law, Donna (Frank) Burns; granddaughter, Fera (Burns) Morrison; a great-granddaughter, Avery Nicole Morrison; brother-in-law, Lewis Burns and his wife, Erma; sister-in-law, Sandra Kay McDaniels; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Mae Frank, Nancy Furrow, Tammy Arbogast, and Debbie Hinkle. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Karen Taylor and Pastor Gwen Carr. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to express their special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living and the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, as well as the members of the Churchville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
