Death
Mrs. Lillie Catherine Whissen, 81, of Harrisonburg, died Monday afternoon at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Whissen had been ill for a year and was admitted to the hospital Dec. 9. She was a daughter of the late George and Josephine Knicely Cave and was born at Clover Hill June 17, 1885. In January 1905, she married John H. Whissen. Mr. and Mrs. Whissen lived in the Pleasant Valley area for many years. Mr. Whissen died May 28, 1963 and the following year she moved to Harrisonburg. Mrs. Whissen was a member of St. Jacobs (Spaders) Lutheran Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Joe L. Whitmire, Mrs. Robert W. Shaw and Mrs. J. Welty Holsinger, all of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Jacobs (Spaders) Lutheran Church by the Rev. C. J. Martin and the Rev. Robert L. Bridgers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Relatives will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Shaw, 353 Chicago Ave. at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Walter M. Rodgers, David M. Rodes, John L. Kaylor, Charlies M. Rodgers, W. L. Sandy, Robert E. Filler, Glen W. Eaton and Harry L. Lam. Friends may call at the Shaw residence on Chicago Avenue,Daily News-Record, Harrisonburg, Virginia, January, 31, 1967
