True Republican, 9 March 1948Services were held Sunday afternoon at the Cooper Funeral Home in Genoa for the late Martin Anderson, prominent farmer of rural Genoa. He passed away early Friday morning at the Sycamore Municipal hospital, following a critical illness since the previous Tuesday. Mr. Anderson had been in ill health for some time. The Rev. R. E. Bethards of the Genoa Methodist church, of which he was a member, officiated. Interment took place in the mausoleum at the Elmwood cemetery in Sycamore. The decedent was born in Miller Township, La Salle county, on August 9, 1867, the son of Marcus and Christina Anderson. He attended the Miller Township schools, later attending the Normal School at Morris. On February 26, 1889, he was united in marriage to Mary Josephine Furr. The first ten years of their married life were spent on the farm near Nettle Creek township, Grundy county. In 1899, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and three children located in Genoa where he purchased a beautiful farm six miles northeast of Genoa. A great loss to them, was their daughter, Myrtle, who died on October 17, 1940. Mrs . Anderson passed away in July of 1947. Following the death of his wife, Mr. Anderson failed in health quite rapidly. He was a member of the Genoa Methodist church. Surviving his demise are two sons, Robert, of White Rock, S. D., and Earl at home; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; also a brother, Henry Anderson of Ottawa, and a sister, Mrs. Lina Barber of Harlan, Iowa. He was preceded in death, by four brothers and a sister.
