SLANESVILLE, W.Va - Leonard "Buddy" Charles Thomas, 89, of Slanesville, died Monday, April 9, 2007. Born Nov.16, 1917 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Fischer) Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dixie (Furr) Thomas; his second wife, May (Smith) Thomas; one step daughter, Wilma Rannells; two brothers, Edward and Marvin Thomas; and three step grandchildren. Mr. Thomas retired after twenty-seven years of service as a prison guard with the Lorton Reformatory in Lorton, Va. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. "Buddy" attended the Capon Chapel Church of the Brethren and was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6667 in Fort Ashby, WV. He is survived by his wife, Lovella S. Ullery Thomas, of Slanesville; one son, Stephen Charles Thomas, of Slanesville; four step sons, Russell Ullery, of Middletown, Va., Vernon Ullery, of Augusta, Edward Ullery, of Points and Dwight Ullery, of Roanoke, Va.; one daughter, Darleen Bradfield, of Slanesville; five step daughters, Karla Johnson, of Odenton, Md., Dorothy Mosley, of Vienna, Va., Linda Ullery, of Boling Brook, Ill., Janice Ullery and Charlotte Via, of Roanoke; one brother, Marvin Thomas, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Vera Lewis, of Capitol Heights, Md.; two grandsons; one granddaughter; a number of step grandchildren; two great grandsons; two great granddaughters; and thirteen step great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home in Romney on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home in Romney on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gerald Hott and Pastor Danny Combs officiating. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery at Points where military honors will be accorded by the Hampshire County Veterans Honor Guard and Rifle Squad.Endnotes
