Death
Henry Clayton Monroe, 72, of 422 Grubert Ave., died 9 a.m. Tuesday (March 28, 1972) in King's Daughters' Hospital after an illness of several weeks.He was born March 16, 1900 in Augusta County, and was a member of Mint Spring United Methodist Church. Mr. Monroe had been associated with the antique business here for about 35 years and in recent years had operated a shop at 114 W. Johnson St. Surviving are one son, Henry J. Monroe of Staunton; two daughters, Mrs. C. W. Furr of Staunton and Mrs. Hollis Arehart of Stuarts Draft; three sisters, Mrs. Lewis Smith of Staunton, Mrs. Dave Colvin of Winchester and Miss Lydia Stuples of Richmond; six grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild. His wife, Mrs. Leona Agnes (Fisher) Monroe, died May 30, 1963. A funeral service will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Fred Henry Funeral Home by the Rev. Carl V. Hinkle and the Rev. Joseph R. May. Burial will be in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery at Stuarts Draft. Pallbearers will be E. M. Collins, Robert H. Rodgers, Charles Smith, Augustus Smith, A. Robert Powers and Floyd H. Tisdale. Honorary pallbearers will be John J. Riser, Joseph H. Kirby, C. M. Baber, J. Frank Bocock, E. E. Shirkey, Elmer Palmer, Robert H. Lockridge, Early Ross, H. L Arehart, W. Preston Lloyd, J. W. Nutty, Harvey Price, William L Welcher, Allen Monroe, Samuel J. Sutton and R. Wallace Strickler. Friends will be received at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Furr, 419 Grubert Ave.
