Death
BRIDGEPORT — Robert Marlin Spencer, 77, of Nutter Fort, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Ruby Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born May 23, 1936, in Volga, Barbour County, a son of the late Buster and Clarice (Furr) Spencer. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis Baker Spencer, whom he married July 27, 1956. Also surviving are his son, Mark Spencer and his wife Emily, Evergreen, CO; daughter-in-law, Tess Spencer, Nutter Fort; six grandchildren, Devin, Jake, Alexandra, India, Hayley and Christian; and two great-grandsons, Gil Mendoza and Gavin Doll. A brother, Bill Spencer and his wife Joan, Clarksburg; and three nieces, Jackie Patterson and her husband Steve, Terry Spencer and Cindy Freeland complete his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Shon Spencer, and his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Jack Freeland. Bob graduated from Philippi High School in 1955 and the W.Va. Business College in 1956. He was an accountant for a private firm and then retired from CNG Transmission Corp. in 1995 after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. In accordance to his wish, his body has been donated to the WVU Health Sciences Center. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1766 Milford Street, Clarksburg, with a celebration of Bob’s life to be held at 7 p.m. with Pastor Linda Muhly presiding.
