Death
Mr. George Franklin Harne Sr., 69, of Buffalo Road, Mount Airy, died Saturday, Oct. 16, at Frederick Health Care Center, Frederick. He was the husband of Rachel Elizabeth Harne, his wife of 48 years. Born Dec. 23, 1929, in Washington, he was a son of the late Harry Sr. and Agnes Spencer Harne. Mr. Harne was owner and president of Harne Plastering Co. from 1948 to 1955. He was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Mount Airy, where he served on the board of directors. He was past president of the Mount Airy Lions Club, past president of the Frederick County Home Builders Association, served on the board of directors of FCNB Bank, and was past president and board of director for the Ridge Swim Club for the past 30 years. He enjoyed playing pool with senior citizens, going from center to center. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, George F. Harne Jr. and wife Susan of Middletown, Steven B. Harne and wife Stephanie of Mount Airy, and Elizabeth Anne Harne Mellstrom and husband Greg of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Joni, Christopher, Alexander and Victoria Harne, and David Mellstrom; two sisters, Rosalie Hobbs of Littlestown, Pa., and Lavenia Cornell of Frederick; and one brother, Harry Harne Jr. of Union Bridge. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy, with the Rev. Carol C. Yocum officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy. Those desiring may send memorial contributions to the Mount Airy Lions Club, c/o Richard E.
