Death
John P. Swingle, 64 of 712 S. McLean St. died at 9:07 a.m. today, May 15 1984, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Swingle was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from employed for 22 years. Prior to working for Pierce, he had been employed by the Armour Creameries for 17 years. He was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Lincoln, the son of Clyde and Alma Westerman Swingle. He married Mary Collette Furr Aug. 16, 1954, in Missouri. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Marsha Marston, Lincoln; a son, John Michael Swingle, Lincoln; a stepdaughter, Rita Barry, Lincoln; a stepson, Melvin Chrisman, Lincoln; two sisters, Dorothy Bartels and Betty Emmons, both of Lincoln; seven brothers, Kenneth, Earl, Roy, Charles, Vernon and Alan, all of Lincoln, and Donald, of New York; and five stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one stepson. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society.Endnotes
