Death
Long-time Wayne County physician Dr. Frank Duncan passed away Sunday, July 11 at his home on Hickory Hill Drive. He was 82. Duncan was a mainstay of the local medical community and along with Dr. Mack Roberts was one of the driving forces that founded the Wayne County Hospital. "There is no question that the quality of medical care in our community is greatly improved since the opening of the Wayne County Hospital," Duncan was once quoted as saying about the local hospital. He served as the hospital's first chairman of the board. The Wayne County Hospital opened in 1973. Duncan's practice in Wayne County spanned nearly 50 years. He opened his first office here in 1937 and officially retired from practice in December of 1985. He served as a member of the Medical Corp in Africa and the European Theater during World War II. Duncan was in service from 1942-1945, and then returned to his Monticello practice. Duncan was named the Citizen Doctor of the Year in 1975 by the American Academy of Family Physicians - Kentucky chapter. He was the first president of the Monticello Country Club and an involved member in the Monticello United Methodist Church. Duncan was chairman of the board at the church for 25 years and also chaired the church's building committee. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hamilton Furr Duncan; a sister, Marjorie D. Cavanah of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; a brother, Joe Duncan of Hazard, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held today at the Monticello United Methodist Church at 3:30 pm. Dr. Frank L. Duncan was born April 2, 1911 and departed this life Sunday, July 11, 1993, reaching an age of 82 years. He was the son of Charles Clarence and Nell Harrison Duncan, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are two brothers. Surviving is his wife, Elizabeth Hamilton Furr Duncan; one brother, Joe W. Duncan of Hazard, Kentucky; and one sister, Marjorie D. Cavanah of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 14, 1993 at 3:30 pm in the Monticello United Methodist Church with Brother Carlos Coop and Brother Jim Kingry officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery. Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
