Death
Arnold R. Summers, 82, of Veedersburg died at 7:40 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, in Franciscan Health Crawfordsville. He was born Dec. 20, 1934, at Yeddo, son of the late Manford and Rachael Orahood Summers. He married Theda Ann McKinney on April 22, 1956, at Veedersburg. She survives. Arnold graduated from Veedersburg High School and was a life resident of Veedersburg. He spent his career and retired from Olins – Flexel as an operator in sheeting and slitting. He was a member of the Sterling Christian Church and active in the choir until his health failed. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge #491 in Veedersburg and had received his 50-year pin. Arnold was a genuine family man and his family meant everything to him. He was great husband who sang to his wife, a supportive dad who was always there and he attended his grandchildrens’ activities and sporting events as much as he could. He also had an ornery side and a nickname for everyone! He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and working in his lawn and garden. Surviving, along with his wife Theda, are: daughter Annette Summers Furr; son Steve (Jeanene) Summers of Lafayette; four grandsons, Greg (Heather) Rusk, Scott (Danielle) Rusk, Nate and Kyle Summers; great-granddaughters, Hannah Nicole and Taylor Addison Rusk; brother-in-law Charley (Sandra) McKinney of Hillsboro; sister-in-law Charlotte (Ron) Pierson of Fishers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Patricia. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017, at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. A Masonic service will conclude the visitation at 8 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the funeral home, with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery Covington. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sterling Christian Church.Endnotes
