Extra information1852Daw's cemetery is on Elba-Batavia Town Line Road, near Daw's Corner. Cemetery is on the south side of the road, so it has a Batavia mailing address. This is where John H. Knickerbocker and wife Ann (Lloyd) were buried.
Extra information1852"Mr Smiley" of Elba, who escorted the casket, was described as a former state legislator. This was Robinson Smiley. He and brother Orlando lived on north side of Town Line Road. (See father's will.) Orlando was son-in-law of John Knickerbocker.
Extra information1852Mr. Daw "of Elba" helped escort the casket "to Elba." Probably Homer Daw, who was a neighbor of Henry Knick. (Henry was son of John H. Knick & Ann Lloyd). Daw family actually lived in Batavia, apparently on south side of Town Line Road.
Burial1852Newspaper story: Hiram's last visitors were Misters "Smiley and Daw" of Elba, "friends and neighbors of the Knickerbocker family." They escorted the casket "to Elba" for burial. Almost certainly an unmarked grave in Daw's Cemetery. - Elba, Genesee County, New York, United States of America
Death30 Jan 1852Hiram was hung for murder. Widely covered in newspapers, including his escape and recapture, and petitions from "ladies" on his behalf. None of the stories mention his parents or siblings. - Buffalo, Erie County, New York, USA
