Obituary: Shawano Leader; Monday, March 26, 2007; Dorothy A. Terkel, 82, of 213 E. Randall St., Shawano, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2007 at Bellin Health Center in Green Bay, where she had been a patient for the past week. Dorothy was born on Feb. 9, 1925 in the Town of Richmond in Shawano County, daughter of the late Robert and Marie (Hess) Behnke. She attended St. James Lutheran grade school and later Shawano High School, graduating in 1943. Following school, she moved to Milwaukee, where she was employed at Badger Meter. On Oct. 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dan Terkel at the Wisconsin Soldiers Home in Miliwaukee. The couple lived in Milwaukee, where Dorothey was employed at at Blue Cross Insurance Co. for over 30 years. She retired in 1996 and has lived in Shawano since 1999. She is a former member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and was a very devout Christian. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, antiquing, rummage sales and spending time with her family and pets. Survivors include: husband Dan Terkel of Shawano; brothers Edward Behnke of Shawano and Richard (Sharon) Behnke of Winona, Minn.; sister Betty (LeRoy) Lemke of Ocala, Fla.; many neices and nephews and special friends Bob and Audrey Greub of Shawano. She was preceded in death by daughter Suzanne Terkel, brothers John and Harold Behnke, and sister-in-law Phyllis Behnke. A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano.
