Robert Daniel Selby

R. D. Selby, 94, of Montrose, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Selby was a native of Scottsboro, Alabama and a resident of Prescott, Thebes and Montrose for most of his life. He loved to play baseball when he was a young man. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. He was serving on a ship, but was sent back to the United States during wartime because of the Hiroshima bombing. He was a lifelong farmer in Ashley and Chicot Counties. He was a recent member of the Montrose Baptist Church and a former member of the Snyder Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon at Shiloh and Montrose Baptist Church. He loved hunting and enjoyed deer camp time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by a son, Robert Daniel Selby; two grandsons, William Neal Selby and Thomas Marion Bostick; a great-grandson, Cory Dane Selby; his parents, John Herbert and Mary Bowen Selby; a sister, Mary Ruth Neal and three brothers, Raymond, Gordon and J.B. Selby.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Doris Nelms Selby of Montrose; a son, Jerry Selby and wife, Billie, of Portland; two daughters, Nina Pamplin of Monticello and Patricia Kelley and husband, Don, of Bossier City, Louisiana; a sister, Ruby Helen Murphy of Sherwood, two brothers, Leon Selby of Montrose and Tillman Selby of Greenbrier; 11 grandchildren, Lissa Smith, Chris Selby, Suzanne Singleton, Phil Selby, Ted Selby, Tracy Tucker, Eric Selby, Richalle Ney, Renee Clardy, Jonathan Moreau and Dorissa Kaufman; 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew and caregiver, Raymond Nelms and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Montrose Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Mason and Rev. Todd Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in the Snyder Cemetery. Pallbearers are Phil Selby, Ted Selby, Eric Selby, Chris Selby, Freddy Selby, Thad Selby, Jody Moreau and Ray Selby. Honorary pallbearers are B.K. Kilpatrick, Raymond Nelms, Jimmy Lawrence, David Burns, Harold Selby and the Deacons of Montrose Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.
