Naomia Katheryn Newell, 100, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities, Bettendorf. Celebration of Life services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 25, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, where the family will greet visitors from noon until time of service. Burial will be in Great Bend, Kansas. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Great Bend, Kansas.
Naomia was born August 24, 1906, in Carolton, Missouri, the daughter of Lafayette and Virginia (Fitzwater) Brock. She married Ralph D. Newell on September 16, 1926, in Garden City, Kansas.
Naomia had many interests through the years. She loved flowers and helped maintain gardens at her home, at the Great Bend Library and the Great Bend Memorial Park. She belonged to numerous clubs and organizations, including being a charter member of the Camp Fire Girls in Scott City, Kansas, and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She spent many hours working with friends in the First Christian Church in Great Bend and always enjoyed hearing about their activities after moving to Bettendorf.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Fairweather, of Bettendorf; grandchildren, David Shawn Fairweather and wife Cynthia of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, Kaimberly Kay Ruge and husband Jim, Jeffrey Scott Fairweather and wife Kristine of Bettendorf, and Linda Renee McGhee and husband Pete of Davenport, Iowa; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph, her sister, Ruth Freed, and a great-grandson, Tylor James Ruge.
