Individual Details

Frances Elizabeth Taylor

(5 Jul 1924 - 11 Sep 2017)

Frances Elizabeth Wharton, 93, died Sept. 11, 2017.
Her parents were Judge M. F. “Dobbin” and Elizabeth Woods Taylor. Born and raised in Hamburg, she was always known as Frances Elizabeth, and developed life long loves of family, church, tennis, piano and all intellectual pursuits.
She completed bachelor and master degrees at Ouachita, Baylor, and South Arkansas universities. As the editor of the Baylor yearbook, she met the editor of the Baylor newspaper, her future husband, Wayne. Once they settled in El Dorado, where Wayne headed advertising and sales promotion for Lion Oil, Frances became involved in community activities including El Dorado Service League, Community Concert Series, the South Arkansas Arts Center, and all aspects of raising her sons, Richard and Jim.
Graciously waiting until her sons finished school, she started a career at El Dorado High School, initially running the Reading Lab and then teaching 10th grade English where she shared her love of proper grammar and Shakespeare. Upon retiring, she spent countless hours over decades with the Literacy Council and Interfaith Help Services. She loved her friends and her birthday club Through it all, she loved First Baptist Church El Dorado, where she worked in the youth Sunday School department for 65 years, retiring last December.
Frances is survived by sons, Richard and Jim (Xiuli); grandson, David; brother, Frank; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Interfaith Help Services, and the South Arkansas Arts Center.
