Mrs. Ruth Catherine Murphy, 73, of Hamburg died Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. A native and lifelong resident of Ashley County and Hamburg, she was a homemaker until all her children were raised, and then went to nursing school. She graduated first in her class with highest honors and was a nurse for 25 years. She was a member of the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed and received several awards for knitting and sewing.
She is survived by a son, Mike Murphy of Hamburg; two daughters, Brenda Marshal of Whitehall and Mary Rogers of McGehee; a brother, Frank S. Knight, Jr., of Hamburg; four sisters, Laverne Burchell of Crossett, Lucille Etheridge of North Little Rock, Margie Noble of Monticello, and Judy Van Arsdel of Fort Worth, TX; six grandsons, four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel "Danny" Lynn Murphy; her parents, Frank Stanton and Addie Moore Knight; and a sister, Frances Tyson. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 21, in the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Rick Etheridge and Roy Craig officiating. Burial followed services at the Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Wes and Joey Murphy, Jonathan Griffith, Shane and Seth Hall and Justin Matheny. Funeral arrangements were by Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home, Hamburg.
