JAMES L. GRIFFIN DIES, FUNERAL RITES COMPLETE
James Lawton Griffin, Captain of the Monroe Fire Department and member of a prominent family, died early today in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Saturday in the chapel of Peters Funeral Home with the Msgr. J. C. Marsh officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
Born in Rumsey, Kentucky, June 19, 1903, Captain Griffin had been a resident of Monroe for the past 46 years. He joined the Monroe Fire Department on November 1, 1929, and on October 1, 1947, was promoted to the rank of Captain. He had also served as secretary of the Monroe Firemen Relief Fund for a number of years.
