Phyllis Lind Sorsby, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, the 9th of August 2011, at home in Houston, Texas, with her family by her side. Phyllis Jean Lind was born on the 30th of November 1930. She was the first child of Elmer and Clara Lind.
Phyllis was in girl scouts and reached the highest rank in the scouting program. Phyllis attended Elgin High School and graduated in 1949. She then went on to graduate business school.Phyllis was an avid golfer, and loved the great outdoors. She took a trip of a lifetime in 1953 to visit her relatives in Sweden, where she established friendships that have lasted a lifetime. After returning from Sweden, she moved to Houston where she met Eldon Sorsby, working at his Humble service station. They fell in love and married on the 23rd of March 1956. Phyllis and Eldon went on to found A to Z Rentals, which today is known as Aztec Rental Service.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, the late Eldon Ray Sorsby. Phyllis is survived by her brother, Charles Lind and his wife, Laura, and their children; her son, Ray Sorsby and his wife Laurie; her daughter, Kathy Johnson and her husband, Craig; her grandchildren, Kyle Sorsby and his wife, Erika, Reid Sorsby, Brett Johnson and his wife, Jessica, Nicholas, Heather, Hayley, Lauren, Audrey and Madeleine. She is also survived by her aunt Daisy; her sister-in-law, Wanda; and many beloved family members in Illinois, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Phyllis loved life and was known for her generosity, love, and wisdom. She leaves a special legacy of touching lives with unseen acts of kindness. Phyllis was a great mother, wonderful wife, and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family and friends, was a great friend to many. She is loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Phyllis's life is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 15th of August, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where Dr. Jim Jackson, Senior Pastor, is to officiate.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that contributions honoring Phyllis be directed to Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay St., Houston, TX, 77024.
