Paul Junior Gibbs

MOUNDS -- Paul Junior Gibbs, 74, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away at 11:42 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Union County, the son of Elmer and Lena (Bruner) Gibbs.
Paul served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1963. He was a retired mental health technician from Choate Mental Health and Development Center in Anna.
He was very active in the Smiles I Center in Mounds, serving as a director of Southern Pride Board.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (McClellan) Gibbs of Mounds; two sons, P.J. (Cori) Gibbs of Jonesboro and Dennis Smith of Carbondale; two daughters, Tina (Bill) Johnson of Anna and Lena (Justin) Ried of St. Louis; stepson, Danny Pirtle of Champaign; brother, Eugene Gibbs of Anna; four sisters, Mary Richardson and Mildred Matthews, both of Anna, Loraine Bunebette of Macon, Ga., and Delores Barton of St. Charles, Mo.; five grandchildren, Autumn and Mia Gibbs, Anthony Mull, Jeffrey Wilkerson and Jullian Gibbs; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Patsy Gibbs, in 2002.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, in Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge with the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating, with full military honors by members of the Illinois National Guard Burial Team and local veterans. Interment will be in Casper Cemetery, near Anna. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
