He was a Quality Control Manager for Douglas Aircraft Company while living in Charlotte, NC.
In 1967 he was transferred to Cape Kennedy to work with all the Apollo Missions, through Sky Lab 3.
He retired on June 28, 1973 after 35 years with the company and moved back to Lake Norman.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Miles Cloud; one son, LeRoy E. Butch Cloud, III of Melbourne; one daughter, Barbara C. Sherrill and husband, Joyce F. of Iron Station; five grandchildren, John H. Sherrill, Robert M. Sherrill and wife Argaelly, Rhonda L. Sherrill, Jay F. Sherrill and wife Linda, and Melinda S. Sherrill; and nine great-grandchildren.
