Lora Joe Windham

Lora taught in the Spring and Humble areas. On Apr 24, 1917, she married her childhood sweetheart, Arthur Hood Dewees. In 1919, they established a general store at Howth Station, 5 miles north of Hempstead, where Arthur became Post Master. In the early 1940s, they sold the store, and relocated to Hempstead. In the 1950s, they owned and operated the Hempstead Hotel. They had one son, Hood Windham Dewees, and their grandson "Ronnie" lived with them for several years.
