Enlisted in the US Marine Corps at 17. Marine Corps records state he died at the US Naval Hospital, of disease and, therefore, was not eligable for "ND.GO #155" (purple heart). His brother, George Truitt Wallingford, also a Marine, named his only son for Eugene.
