Christopher James Wizner, resident of Spokane Valley, WA., passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, January 15, 2016 in Longview, WA, where he was working.
Chris, also known as "Wiz", was born in Saginaw, Michigan to John and Aileen (Hennessey) Wizner on February 19, 1961 and lived many years with his family in Northern Michigan. He is survived by his daughter Laura Ann Wizner of Santa Fe, NM., his son Michael Alan Wizner of Eugene, OR., his most treasured companion, Lisa Waldron of Kodiak, AK., his siblings, Kathleen (Edward) Gross of Riverdale, MI., Mary Schwartz of Cheboygan, MI., Noreen (Thomas) Sawatzki of West Branch, MI., Ruth (Paul) Liska of Mackinaw City, MI., Joseph (Angela) Wizner of Liberty Lake, WA., Nanette Allen of Cheboygan, MI., Cheryl Butler of Spokane Valley, WA., Marion Wizner of Gaylord, MI., Suzanne Willis of Richardson, ND., and Michael Wizner of Indian River, MI.. Chris is preceded in death by his parents and brothers John Thomas Wizner and David Gregory Wizner. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews ,great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
There will be a Memorial Service at the Spokane Veteran's Cemetery at 21702 W. Espanaola Rd., Medical Lake, WA. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with the family receiving callers at the Hoot Owl Club meeting room at 2016 E. Sprague, Spokane, WA. afterwards from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m..
Chris was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps "C" Company, 2nd Combat Battalion, 2nd Marine Division (1980 - 1986) where he earned honors as a Combat Engineer and Rifle Sharpshooter, while receiving the Meritorious Mast for Outstanding Service award. He was a patriot who remained passionately devoted to citizen's rights and social justice and was known to have expressed his ideals in discussion, writings and his participation in the National Rifle Association and various concerned citizen's groups. Chris was also very dedicated to his Friends of Bill W community, lending his humor, guidance and friendship to many who benefitted from his fellowship. He was also known to have offered his talents, time and resources to those in need.
Our Chris was an adventurous man, who loved traveling to all corners of the U.S. both for work and for the "Walk-about" adventures that were his recreation. His journey through life may have ended too soon but Chris would remind those who knew and loved him, as he posted in this quote from Sonia Ricotti on his Facebook page,
"Surrender to what is, Let go of what was and
have Faith in what will be."
