Military1915enlisted in the AIF in Yarrawonga on the 19 July 1915 - 57th Battalion(16th Light Horse). He sailed from Australia on the 23 Nov 1915 & fought in France. He disembarked in Melbourne 4 March 1919 having been awarded the Miltary Medal. The citation reads "Near DOINGT, east of PERONNE on the 15th Sept. 1916 during the operation of forcing the passage of the SOMME the company to which Pte Curry belonged experienced great trouble from a nest of enemy M.G's (machine guns), which held up the advance of that part of the line. Pte Curry mounted a captured German M.G. and engaged the enemy for over an hour. He was in a very exposed position and had numerous stoppages which he remedied every time. The enemy shot away the sight of the gun he was using but he continued firing until the nest was subdued. He inflicted numerous casualties on the enemy, killing six. His courage, skill and determination throughout the operation was of the highest order and deserved recognition"
