Occupation1890teacher. He began his training in 1869 and was quickly appointed as assistant teacher at the Model School in West Melboure in 1870. 1874 saw him appointed as headmaster of the Hamilton School, becoming a district school inspector in May 1878. He resigned to enter politics. He became the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the electorate of Dundas in August 1878 but lost his seat in July 1880. He resumed teaching and was appointed headmaster of the Rathdowne Street school in Carlton in 1884
