Big holidays usually meant big parties at Daphne Pouletsos' house in Westwood, N.J. On Mother's Day, she decorated her tidy three-bedroom house with flamingos and invited all of her relatives including those who were not mothers. At Christmastime, she decked the house with Christmas toilet paper and holiday napkins. She inviting her relatives on Christmas Day, followed by her friends and colleagues from Aon Corporation the day after.
She was, according to her brother-in-law, John Krachtus, "the family's social director."
But what Ms. Pouletsos, 47 and single, was really famous for was her Halloween extravaganzas. The decorations included witches flying through trees, gravestones on the lawn and sound effects at every door. Everyone was invited. Sometimes, 200 people would pass through her doors.
She would prepare weeks ahead of time. Before Sept. 11, she had already begun to take the Halloween decorations out of the closet.
