Email exchange: Gregory Kontos and Carol Petranek, Sept. 5, 2015:
Carol: I found the P Eliopoulos who is the man in this contract!
Do you remember when you were at my house and you were reading Election File entries in File 26 which were handwritten? There was a P. Eliopoulos of Mahmoutbei who was the assistant mayor (paredos) and his signature was on 3 pages.
Gregory: This is good news about P. Eliopoulos, but it needs further investigation. I've noticed that there might be two different people with the same name: one in Mahmoutbei and one in Lele neighborhood of Agios Ioannis. I've sent a message to Peggy Kostakou to explain to me if Mahmoutbei and Lele are the same, or close...

Contract
Sale Contract between Voutianitis brothers and Panagiotis EliopoulosApril 5th, 1864
(p.1)
In Sparta, today, on April 5th,day of the week Sunday, at 11am, of year 1864, at my notarial office, located at my house, at the eastern of the Church of the Annunciation of the Mother of God, appeared before me, notary and resident of Sparta, Konstantinos Dimopoulos, Panagiotis Voutianitis and Dimitrios Voutianitis, brothers and landowners, residents of Godena, as well as Panagiotis Eliopoulos, landowner and resident of Machmoutbei, Sparta Municipality. In the presence of the witnesses singing below, they declared and asked me to conduct this sale contract. After I explained and reminded them the provisions of the laws regarding transferences and the consequences of their violation, they stated the following: Panagiotis and Dimitrios Voutianitis, brothers, said that they gladly and willingly sell Panagiotis Eliopoulos an irrigated and recently sowed field of theirs, about 4 ½ acres big, together with the two olive trees and themulberry tree in it. This field is located at the place “Vrysoules”, on the borders of Godena, Sparta Municipality, and adjoins […] the property of Chrystakenis (?) brothers, Panagiotis Giannias, and the vendee himself. The field was sold for two hundred and eighteen drachmas No. 218, which they (the Voutianitis brothers) received

out of court from the vendee, Panagiotis Eliopoulos. Thus, from now on they have no possession and ownership rights on this field and the sown seed, while the vendee, Panagiotis Eliopoulos, can use it as he wills and wishes. From his side, the vendee, Panagiotis Eliopoulos, stated that after paying off the venders, Panagiotis and Dimitrios Voutianitis, […] he accepts the transaction. And for its confirmation was the present sale contract conducted, which after being read clearly and loudly to the stipulators and the witnesses, Mr. Elias Nikolaou, baker, and Efthymios Filippopoulos, “fanaropoios[1]”, residents of Sparta, Greek citizens, known to me and lawful, it was confirmed and signed by them and by me, except for the vendors, Panagiotis and Dimitrios Voutianitis, who claimed they are illiterate.
The Vendee, Panagiotis Eliopoulos
The Witnesses, Elias Nikolaou
Efthymios Filippopoulos
The Notary of Sparta,
