Individual Details

Panagiotis G. Zarafonitis

(1821 - )

Name from marriage record of daughter, Giannoula.

Note about the name, Zarafonitis, from a post on the HellenicGenealogyGeek Facebook page, August 2015:
from Vasilis Stamatakos:
The origin of Zarafonitis family name is a village in mountain Parnonas called Zarafona. When people from this village come in Amykles take as surname the name of the village.
Zarafonitis = someone from village Zarafona . Some Zarafonitis from Amykles have the surname Maltezos(a common surname at Parnon) before they come at Amykles and change it to Zarafonitis.
[My note: The village Zarafona is now part of Kallithea which is east from Sparta in the Parnon mountains.]

July 2017 – Visit with Popi Zarafonitis of Amykles. FromZarafonitis there were 2 families: Mazis and Tounda. They came to Amykles. Popi is from the Tounda family. She thinks I am from Mazis because there is no Giannoula in her family that anyone knows of. So I may be of Mazis. The Mazis was the Chios name. There is a book about the soldiers from 1940 and who they were and who died.
She told me that Speros Eliopoulos has done a family tree and I sent him a FB message.
