This is supported by an article in the Evening News 4 Sep 1900 reporting that Mary had been granted a divorce on the grounds of desertion - Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australian Colonies - Mary Warner SMITH
Note5 Feb 1885On 5 Feb 1885 James was charged with embezzling the Sydney Soap Company of a total of 6 pounds 14 shillings. He was described in the Evening News as a respectably-dressed man and a commercial traveller. He was found guilty and gaoled for 6 months on the 10 Feb 1885 (released 8 Aug 1885)
