John Rutherford Pease
(1 Feb 1804 - 2 Feb 1860)
He was a hardware merchant. He emigrated to Ohio in 1835 and settled in Fremont, OH. He became a tinsmith in Fremont. He was a Democrat and he liked to gamble.
"When John R. Pease first came to Ohio, he spent four weeks with us at Delaware; his Mother was a beloved sister of my Husband's. His father died when he was an infant; he was fond of chequers. I advised him to learn chess and taught him the names of the men and their moves; he could beat me as soon as he knew the moves..."
