Judge Samuel Elliot

(16 Aug 1777 - 10 Dec 1845)

Lawyer, a fine orator, and politician; postmaster of Brattleboro for many years, represented Brattleboro in the State Legislature, 1823, 1829, etc., and also served as Probate Judge and Associate Judge of Windham Co., VT. and was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress.
He was the author of Elliot's Essays and Eliot Family, compiled by Walter Graeme Eliot, 1887
At 16, RBH visited Samuel Elliot and wrote " I staid two days at Uncle Elliot's and had fun for divers reasons; first I liked his new wife (Sophia Flint)- real first rate; second Belinda and the rest of the gals were home..."
