Surname
1. Anne's maiden name remains unproven but circumstantial evidence points to her being an Elston/Elstone/Alston. Supposedly worshiped at church in Scotch Plains, NJ. Elston/Elstone/ Alston names that show up in Middlesex Co., NJ and all seem to refer to the same family. From research of Connie Hackman.2. Several submissions to WFT suggest Anne's maiden name was Nowlin - Anne Elizabeth Nowlin. An Ana Catherine Nowlin is the purported mother of George Henrich Crist who married Elizabeth Collings. Ana was named after her mother, Ana Elizabeth Tillman. I have not found an Ana Elizabeth Nowlin unless John H. Nowlin died and Ana Elizabeth (Tillman) Nowlin remarried under her married name.
3. Judith Jones reports her as born 1723 in Essex Co., NJ and that her father was Spencer Elston.
