Abraham E. Hocker

Occupation: blacksmith; 1873 to 1876 learned blacksmithing from Jonathan Moser in Newville; 1876 to Biglen, Canton Bern, Switzerland for eight months for blacksmith apprenticeship; 1877 returned and worked for Jacob Braun; then to Monroe for fourteen months; then came to Berne. 1887 built his brick blacksmith shop in Berne. He let the Evangelical Church use the second floor of the shop for its meetings.

1881: bought lot 39 in Berne from John and Mary Hilty, 1920 census shows his family living on Jefferson Street, Berne, Adams, Indiana

Church: Sunday school superintendent and class leader at the Berne Evangelical Church
