John Gorham

RESIDENCE: John and Desire lived in Plymouth, Massachusetts until after daughter Desire Gorham was born 2 April 1644. Then they moved to Marshfield, Massachusetts. John was constable in Marshfield in 1648. They moved to Yarmouth, Massachusetts in 1652 and then to Barnstable, Massachusetts by 1654. John and Desire's house on the eastern edge of Barnstable just before the Yarmouth line built in 1660 still stands on Route 6A.

OCCUPATION: He owned a tannery and grist mill in Barnstable. He bought Hallett's Mill in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

DEATH: John died as a result of the Narragansett fight with the Indians in December 1675. He was a Captain in the militia in King Philip's War. His powder horn was shot and split against his side, resulting in a fever from which he died. He was buried in Swansea, Massachusetts 5 February 1675/76.
