Death

Lucien Sydney Gaudet was born at Lafourche Crossing, La., on May 9, 1878. He was the son of the late Leon Gaudet and Laura Bangs. He was the eldest of a family of nine children. He attended Thibodaux college, Thibodaux. La., and St. Stanislaus College, Bay St. Louis. Miss. In 1901 he was graduated from the school of medicine of Tulane University in New Orleans. Dr. Gaudet practiced in Morgan City and Mermentau, La. He then moved to St. James, La., where he had the sawmill practice, private practice, drug store and post office. From St. James he entered the Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat hospital in New Orleans about 1917. He first became an externe and then an interne and was on the staff of the visiting physicians and also a teacher in the Tulane Post- Graduate School of Medicine. He opened his office for the practice of Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat in Natchez on July 14, 1922. His office was over the Jon Seiferth store, corner of Franklin and Pearl streets. He was a member of the staff of the Natchez Sanitorium, Natchez Charity Hospital and the Natchez General Hospital, being one of the influencing factors in having the Natchez General Hospital reopened. He was also a member of the American Medical Ass'n., Homochitto Valley Medical Society and American Academy of Opthamology and Otolarynology. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, a Master Mason. a Knights Templar, Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was Past Master of Andrew Jackson Lodge No. 2, being Master in 1929 and 1943. He is survived by his widow Cleo Furr Gaudet, a daughter, Mrs. Keith Lanneau of Baton Rouge, La., a son Lucien Sidney Gaudet Jr. of Natchez, a sister Mrs. J. B. LeJeune of New Orleans, La. and three grandchildren, Lucien III, Joseph and Laura. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, one being Dr. Elmer L. Gaudet of Natchez. Funeral services will be held at four o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon from Trinity Episcopal Church of which he was a devout and active member. Rev. Louis O'Vander Thomas, rector, will conduct the services which will be followed by interment in the Natchez City Cemetery with Foster's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The body will remain at the funeral home until the time of the services. There will be Masonic services at the graveside with the local Masonic bodies in charge. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Active; Dr. Fred Gisenberger, Dr. Homer Whittington, Robert Odom, Henry Gaude, Sidney Mayo and Hoskins Deterly. Honorary; Dr. J. S. Ullman, Dr. E. E. Benoist, Dr. Kurtz Stowers, Dr. W. K. Stowers, Cary Noble, H. V. Sessums, A. H. Levy, H. K. Hutton, Waldon S. Hootsell and Lamar Carkeet.
