Death

Carolyn Miller Furr, age 81, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Claremont, NC, passed away December 12, 2017 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Born April 7, 1936, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Foy Eugene Miller and Mary Nell Sigmon Miller. Carolyn graduated from Claremont High School and then attended Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Claremont, NC, and had retired as an administrative assistant with Monarch Machinery in Charlotte, NC. Carolyn enjoyed music, singing, and playing the piano and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She never let go of her Miller heritage and would always say she was proud to be a "Miller from Claremont". In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Sue Marilyn Miller, and a brother, Billy Miller. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lowren E. "Larry" Furr of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Kim Furr of Charlotte, NC; sons, Greg Furr and wife Jennifer of Pinnacle, NC, and Jeff Furr of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Terry Miller of Claremont, NC, and Scott Miller of Shelby, NC; grandchildren, Heather Rowe and husband, Jason of Shelby, NC, Ashleigh Dorsey and husband Russell of Greenville, SC, Lauren Tanner, and Daniel Furr; and great-grandchildren, Lathen Rowe, Kenzie Rowe, Tyler Dorsey, Trevor Dorsey, Trinity Dorsey, Taylor Heathcock and Ariel Heathcock. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Claremont, NC with Rev. Dennis Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 3:00 to 3:45 on Thursday.
