Samuel LEMBY

(1 Mar 1791 - 14 Jan 1848)

Lived in Salem, NC.

Searching for forebears of this S Lemly and wife Elizabeth Furr, daughter of Tobias Lee Furr and Barbara (Smith) Furr, Salisbury. I am great-great granddaughter of S Lemly. Any guidance would be most appreciated. Lee Anderson (dgrc92a@prodigy.com)

Samuel Lemley [1791-1848] and his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Furr [1795-?], left Rowan Co., NC, and moved to Jackson, Hinds Co., MS, in the 1840s in a joint business venture taking many of their children with them.

Children who moved to MS were Tobias L., Samuel Jr., Ithiel T., ??Thomas Espey, ??Catherine, Anne Phifer, ??Louise. [?? no dates--unsure if they survived to adulthood.] Some remained in Rowan Co. and one at least moved to Forsyth Co., NC. Some died young.

Unable to determine Samuel's parentage. I have a reference to an article published in a MS book entitled, "Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Mississippi", p. 118 or 1118, Vol. I that is said to give background data on Samuel and family.

Would like to correspond with person(s) having access to this data and/or any descendants from this Lemly line. Will gladly trade look-ups from Rowan & Davidson Cos., NC.
