Death

Mr. Robert L. “Bob” Whitley, 68, died Oct. 30, 1995, at his residence. Funeral is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will follow the service until 8:30 p.m. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin Lutheran Church Cemetery, Albemarle. A Mecklenburg County native, Mr. Whitley was a charter member of East baptist Church and a Navy veteran of WWII. He retired as director of personnel relations at Kroehler Manufacturing Company after 30 years. He was a 1944 graduate of Endy High School in Stanly County. While his sons were at East Mecklenburg High School he was Treasurer of the Booster Club and served on the Young Life Committee. He loved flying and had received his student solo license. During his retirement he enjoyed his neighbors and working in his wood shop. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Whitley; son, Doug Whitley of Charlotte and son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Joyce Whitley of Albemarle; mother, Mrs. Fannie K. Whitley; and sister, Mrs. Leora Hahn, both of Albemarle; and grandson, Sean Whitley of Albemarle.
