Death

Dexter Benny Wines, age 77, of Cedar Hill Drive, entered into his heavenly home on Monday, March 10, 2014. Mr. Wines was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Dexter Clayton Wines and the late Vassie Dixon Wines. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sue Davis. Mr. Wines had been employed by Champion International in Waynesville for 31 ½ years and was also a dedicated employee of the Haywood County School System for 10 years. Benny truly enjoyed the outdoors, riding his horses and he was also an avid trader. He could often be found sampling fresh mountain water from the mountain waterfalls that he deeply loved. Mr. Wines was of the Baptist faith and he will be great greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. We will remember Dexter Benny Wines as a kind and gentle man with a true and giving heart. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Linda Sharpe Wines of Canton; children, Jimmy Wines and his wife, Molly Wines of Mooresville, Frank Wines and his wife, Cynthia Wines of Salisbury, Tenya Wines of Canton, Randy Ledford and his wife, Denise Ledford of Canton and Andy Ledford and his wife, Corrina Ledford of California; brothers, Gerald Wines and his wife, Mary Wines, Howard Wines and his wife, Thelma Wines, Roger Dale Wines and his wife, Brenda Wines, all of Leicester and Bruce Wines and his wife, Cindy Wines of Canton; sisters, Betty Jo Hoglan of Asheville, Marion Ramsey and her husband, Walter Ramsey of Tennessee, Shirley Carver and her husband, Van Carver and Linda Gentry and her husband, Freddie Gentry, all of Canton; 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home. Reverend Donnie Henson and Reverend Jessie Hollingsworth will be officiating. Burial will follow in Old Thickety Cemetery.
