Death
Josiah Wentz was the youngest child of John Andrew Wentz (c.1751-1827), a Soldier of the Revolution, and his third wife Catherine Caraker (c.1791-1850s). He was confirmed at the Morning Star Lutheran Church in 1843.Josiah was twice married, first to Cecelia Cornelia Yandle, and second to Sarah Catherine Helms. I am still looking for information. It appears he went to Georgia around 1857, was in Alabama around 1860, enlisted in the Confederate Army, in Co. C, the Columbus Light Artillery Regiment, Georgia, CSA, at Columbus, Georgia.
He is listed on the 1870 census or Columbus, Muscogee Co., Ga., but apparently came back home to Goose Creek, Union Co., NC by 1874. He and his brother Simon Peter Wentz applied for a patent for a new and improved animal trap in 1874, at which time both were living at Coburn's Store, Union Co., NC. Josiah apparently died sometime before the 1880 census. He was a cabinet maker.
Josiah's children were: Rufus Josiah Wentz (1856-1915, m. Martha J. Wentz, a cousin), Ira Branch Wentz (1858-?), Alice Wentz (c. 1860-?), Catherine Martha "Kate" Wentz (1869-1915, m. Henry H. Rodel), Laura Eva Wentz (1874-1941, m. John E. Winchester), S. J. T. Wentz (c. 1877, male).
