Lewis deVeaux "Bootsey" Blake, Jr., 99, widower of Alice Utincie Horton Blake of 606 Brown Ave. died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his residence. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was born in Anderson County, the son of the late Lewis deVeaux Blake, Sr. and Annie Pierce Smyth Blake. He was a lifelong member of Belton Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and was active in the Men of the Church. Bootsey graduated from Clemson University in 1931 with a degree in Dairy Science. He married his devoted wife of 67 years on June 8, 1933. He spent his life working in the dairy business. For 5 years, he was the dairy manager at John de la Howe School, where he also served as a mentor for boys at the school. He returned to his hometown of Belton, where he owned and operated Blake's Dairy for about 20 years. Bootsey was very active in the tennis life of the town.Endnotes
