Donald Eugene Lankford, 86, of Ridgeway, VA, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at his home. He was born in Stokesberry, WV, on March 21, 1927, to the late Fred and Bessie Lankford. Mr. Lankford was also preceded in death by his son Donald Lankford, Jr., daughter Peggy Lankford Wood, and son Gary Wayne Lankford; sisters, Virginia Lankford, Evelyn Lankford, Betty Compton, and Roxie Washington; brothers, James Lankford and Fred Lankford, Jr. Mr. Lankford served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, retired from Virginia Carolina Freight Lines, and owned and operated Don's Custom Body Shop. Surviving is his wife, Frieda L. Lankford; daughters, Pam Lankford Loggains of Narrows, VA, Gwen Lankford Turner of Greensboro, NC, Elisha Lankford Bradshaw of Horsepasture, VA, and Terri Shelton Vaden of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Ridgeway, VA. Burial will be at the Lankford Family Cemetery in Lawsonville, NC.
