Death

Wesson, Miss, March 15. — (Special to Clarion-Ledger) — John J. Furr, aged 71, died at his residence here this morning at 8 o’clock, of neuralgia of the heart. Mr. Furr was city marshal, having held that position for the past four years He was also city tax collector and assessor and street commissioner. He had been having slight attacks of the trouble for the past ten days, but was on the street every day trying to do his official duty. Yesterday afternoon he was stricken with the most severe attack. Dr. Beavers attended him. This morning the physician saw him and though he was somewhat better, but advised Mr. Furr not to get out of bed today, to which Mr. Furr assented. However, a few minutes after the physician had departed another attack came on and he was dead before the physician could reach him. Mr., Furr leaves a wife and several grown children Mrs. Lee B. Smith of this city; Mrs. Allen Liggett, of McComb: Mrs. Lucius Reeves, of Jackson, Mr. Lamb Furr, of Selma, Ala. Although advanced in years Mr. Furr was a vigorous, energetic official and was a very popular man with all citizens. His sudden death has cast a gloom over the entire town.
