Death

HARRISBURG - Clevie Haston Hatley, 83, of 6200 Roberta Road, Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Carillon Assisted Living. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, Concord. The Rev. Ervin Houser will officiate. Burial will be at Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust. Military honors will be conducted by the Stanly County DAV Chapter 12. Mr. Hatley was born May 16, 1925, in Stanly County, the son of the late Luther Haston Hatley and the late Mary Frances (Page) Hatley. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He retired from Cannon Mills as an inspector. He attended Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Huneycutt Hatley; brothers, Berry "Pete" Hatley, Britton "Brit" Hatley, Albert "Tom" Hatley and Buddy Hatley; sisters, Bertha "Bert" Blake, Beulah "Bill" Page, Maggie "Sis" Morgan, Joy Belle Lambert and Betty "Dixie" Hill. Survivors include his daughters, Peggy Harwood and husband, Roger, of Mount Pleasant, Gail Ervin and husband, Buddy, and Shelia Furr and husband, Rod, all of Concord; grandsons, Scotty Harwood, Brian Ervin, Jeremy Furr and Chris Furr; granddaughter, Angie Faile; brothers, Billy Hatley of Mount Pleasant and Jack Hatley of Concord; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family meeting place will be at the home of daughter, Shelia Furr, 4021 Cochran Road, Concord.
